Smear Test Anxiety – Free Group Session

After many years of working with women undergoing a variety of examinations including their smear test, I know first hand that for some women, they find it a very anxious and embarrassing time.  There was a news report recently that in some areas of the country, up to half of women under the age of 50 are not having their smear test when they should (see here for full article).  I know it’s not something that any of us look forward to but it can be the difference between life and death for a handful of women and for others, it’s the difference between finding those changes early and having less invasive treatment or having more intrusive treatment or even major surgery.

Because of this, I want to help women overcome their anxiety about having their smear test done so I’d like to offer a free group session to women who are feeling anxious about the procedure.  The session will include teaching you some useful tools to help you cope with the procedure and a relaxation session to help you feel more calm and relaxed about what happens (it really does help the nurse to do the examination if you can relax and it will therefore be over quicker!).

Being in a small group (maximum 5 women) can help you to realise that you’re not alone in feeling worried and you can support each other in feeling more confident to book your appointment and having your smear test done.  Understanding that you’re not alone in how you feel about having it done can help you to get through it.

By booking a place in the session, you’re already well on the way to getting it done!
