One of the most common things that women struggle with in mid-life is weight gain. I know; it happened to me too! But there is one thing that I’ve learned over the last few months and that’s that I had also allowed it to become an excuse too.
It felt like it was just too hard. I’d lost all motivation and even though it was something that I wanted to change, I just couldn’t find the impetus to make the change happen so I created a reason for it not happening. The reason that I know it had become an excuse is because I am now making changes that prove that it is possible to lose weight; even during the menopause. That’s why I want to say to you now, don’t let the menopause become a barrier to losing weight.
It is well recognised that gaining weight is a common symptom of the peri-menopause and menopause with all the hormonal changes that occur and I’m far from claiming to know all the answers. What I do know is that once I had made a commitment to myself about a few things, I was able to do the thing that had evaded me for the last decade; start to lose weight.
I’m not there yet. I have some way to go but the combination of the menopause and lockdowns had taken their toll on me like many others and I understand exactly what it feels like to feel helpless and out of control.
When you make a commitment to yourself and I mean a proper commitment, not a half-hearted gesture, then your wonderful subconscious mind will help you to move in the right direction. I’m not saying that it’s easy all of the time, just that with the right mindset, it is possible.
So how does your subconscious mind help you when it comes to weight loss?
Your subconscious is the deeper part of your mind that stores all the memories, habits, beliefs and behaviours that keep you going on a daily basis. this means that you don’t have to start each new day working out how to do things. That has both a positive and negative effect on life. When you run on good habits, beliefs and behaviours then life is easy. When you’re running on the less good ones, it can make change more of a challenge.
By working with the subconscious you can change how you act or behave, make new choices and feel more in control; even when your body feels like it’s working against you.
I got to the tipping point where I wasn’t prepared to be that way anymore. I wanted to change and I worked with my subconscious by giving it a firm instruction that it was happening. It’s a journey and I’m constantly reminding myself of which way I’m heading.
There are many ways of overcoming symptoms of the menopause. Don’t let the menopause become a barrier to your weight loss, you can make that change when you’re ready to do so.
